Role: Book Design, Cover Illustration & Lettering

From the shadows of defeat, greatness is forged.

This Brazilian collector’s edition of the classic features a double-sided dust jacket, each with an unique illustration inspired by the book’s central theme. This is the story of a poor man ascending to power – so a golden finish was used in contrast to the crude lettering, while both drawings reflect on the cruel cost of ambition and appearances.

The lettering was entirely hand-drawn, inspired by the vernacular of prison walls. The symbol of tally marks is purposely blended with scars and the cross, reminiscent of Edmond Dantè’s journey in the book.

“It’s necessary to have wished for death, Maximillien, in order to know how good it is to live.”

— Edmond Dantès
